Roxas City is situated just east of the north-central coast of Panay Island with geographic coordinates of 11°35' N, 122°45' E. Its boundaries are: the Visayan Sea to the north, the municipality of Panitan to the south, the municipality of Ivisan to the west, and the municipality of Panay to the East. It is located 250 nautical miles (460 km) southeast of Manila and 135 kilometers northeast of Iloilo City(Regional Capital). Travel time to Manila is 45 minutes by air and 18 hours by sea.

 Sinadya Sa Halaran

The Sinadya sa Halaran Festival is celebrated the first week of every December in commemoration of the founding of the city followed by the Diwal Festival signifying the city's importance as the country's "Seafood Capital" along with the Aswang Festival that symbolizes the rich heritage of myth and folklore in the province. There used to be two separate and distinct festivals, the Halaran ("Offering") and the Sinadya ("Celebration"), the former is celebrated by the Province of Capiz and the latter by the City of Roxas. The Sinadya was formerly held at the same time as the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, which was celebrated by the Immaculate Conception Metropolitan Cathedral. The Halaran was usually held by the last week of October each year (A prelude to All Souls Day and All Saints Day festivals). However, because of the costs of holding two separate festivals year, the two festivals were merged, with both the Province of Capiz and the City of Roxas contributing to the expenses.

Diwal Festival

The Roxas City Seafood Festival is held to commemorate and promote the resurgence of the Angel Wing or diwal, which neared extinction until protected and cultivated in Roxas City.
Roxas City is a medium-sized city in the province of Capiz, Philippines. It is the provincial capital and a component city. As of 2010, the city mayor is former city vice mayor Angel Alan Celino who was elected during the 2010 election.
The city is a center of copra and aquaculture production. The surrounding area grows sugarcane, rice, coconut, fruit, hemp, and tobacco. The language spoken in Roxas City are Capiznon and Hiligaynon.
According to the 2007 census, the city has a population of 147,738 people with a density of 1,449/km2 (3,752.8/sq mi)
The abundance of marine life makes Roxas City the "Seafood Capital of the Philippines." This environment-friendly city is home to one of the richest fishing grounds in the country.[citation needed] Roxas City's Baybay Beach is just over 7 kilometers long. The tallest sea cliffs in Western Visayas can be found on the city's north side. Roxas City has been a Hall of Famer of the Regional Cleanest and Greenest Component City in Western Visayas Award of the Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran Program of the national government.

Capiz being the ‘Clean & Green Seafood Capital of the Philippines!’ is considered to be one of the best tourist destination. Every year Roxas City, the capital of Capiz celebrates its Sinadya sa Halaran Festival. The Sinadya sa Halaran Festival is the joint festival of the City of Roxas and the Province of Capiz. It is a mixed festival in that it is celebrated for both cultural and religious reasons. It is celebrated every first weekend of December in commemoration of the Feast of the Virgin of the Immaculate Concepcion who also happens to be the patroness of the City of Roxas. Sinadya sa Halaran boasts of colorful activities like the grand parade of festivals, the fluvial parade, the lighted river floaters. There is also the traditional seafood festival and the grand pyrotechnic display.
Sinadya sa Halaran is one of Roxas City’s most important annual events and is fusion of two festivals – “Sinadya” (City) and “Halaran” (Province) which literally means joy in sharing and thanksgiving. It is celebrated on December 4-8 to commemorate the religious activities that embody the true Capiceño spirit. The highlights of the celebration are the Dancing Parade, ”Higantes”, Fluvial Parade, Fireworks display, Mutya sa Halaran beauty pageant, Coronation of the Fiesta Queen, and Agri-Aqua Trade Fair.

The Beach is pn;y a 10 minutes ride from the City Proper.
LA PLAYA DE ROXAS – Located at Brgy. Baybay, this Park by the sea has been dubbed “the people’s park”. Here, one can watch the sunrise in the east6 and the sunset at the west.
SINADYA SA HALARAN – Which means “Joy in Sharing” is the City’s much awaited annual festival held every December to commemorate the feast of our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. Various activities that showcase the true Capiceño Spirit are held for the benefit of everyone whether they are residents or visitors to the City. The highlights of the celebration are the Parade of Festivals, the Prosesyon sa Suba, spectacular fireworks the Koronasyon sang Reyna, the Mutya sang Sinadya sa Halaran, Food Festival with Live Bands, native sports competitions, Dilayag Races, water sports, Sina-ot sa Kalye and many more.

Heritage Paradise

Sta. Monica Church & Panay Bell, Panay, Capiz
One of the oldest churches in the country, Sta. Monica church was built on 1774, with Majestic Baroque influenced defined by the use of attached coupled piers in couinthean style, the architect use of the facade is articulated following the tenets of the Baroque Movement. It was declared a National Landmark by the National Historical Institute of the Philippines on 1997. In the Topmost tier of its five-level belfry is the Biggest and Most Likely the heaviest Christian Bell in Asia which was cast in 1878 using 70 sacks of coins. It is about 7 ft. in height & 5 ft. in diameter and weighs 10.4 tons.


Travel to Roxas - getting there
Roxas City has its own airport with regular flights from Manila (45 minutes). Ships also sail to Roxas port and there are buses from places such as Iloilo (2 hours) and Boracay (4 hours). Alternatively, you can get a boat all the way here from Manila (16 hours).
In brief
Worth it? Only if you want to sample fresh seafood or take the slow ferry from Manila.
What to do: dine on fresh seafood, take a boat trip to one of the nearby towns or cities, sunbathe on the beach.
Best time to go: during the cool, dry season between February and May.
How long? A day or less is enough time to see Roxas.
